Like many villages in this part of Italy there are festivals and celebrations that take place in Montone that retain the traditions of the local community. A medieval pageant is enacted every Easter Monday with parades and tournaments being held in the streets of the village and during August the whole village celebrates the occasion in 1473 when Carlo Braccio Fortebraccio presented a thorn from Christ’s crown to Montone.

If you are a keen walker or hiker you can step through the gates of the village walls and straight into the magical countryside that surrounds Montone. There are stunning views like this of the Apennine mountains from numerous vantage points on the old town walls.
